Cynder

After being kidnapped while still an egg, Cynder was raised under the control of Malefor, an evil dragon known as the Dark Master. After all this, Malefor used his dark magic to transform Cynder into a monstrous black dragon with a personality that was truly horrible, who cared about nothing but reviving her master with the dark crystals.
After Spyro freed her from Malefor's control, Cynder felt responsible for the suffering she'd caused everyone, especially Spyro. As time passed, however, Cynder realized that Spyro really cares about her, and started to care about him in the same way. Her friendship with Spyro eventually blossoms into true love due to his heartfelt understanding of her. Spyro also shows Cynder that it wasn't her error, and the young black dragon quickly takes on a more positive attitude, even admitting her love for Spyro.
Despite her damsel-in-distress role in the first two games, Cynder is far from passive and demure and is indeed strong-willed. Like all heroines, Cynder is also cunning, intelligent, witty, resourceful, brave, spirited, independent, and not afraid to speak her mind. She still feels guilty about the things she'd done while under Malefor's control and seeks to find her own heroic destiny. No longer a pawn of the Dark Master, Cynder now fights as a hero alongside Spyro, hoping to redeem her past and save her future.

Spyro

Born in the Year of the Dragon, Spyro is a rare purple dragon prophesized to bring hope to the world. While all other dragons are capable of breathing only one particular element (such as fire or ice), the purple dragon is a rare breed that can harness all of the elements. Spyro is young and compassionate for others, and he is always willing to help them, no matter what happens. Spyro doesn't ask for rewards and is just happy to be a big help to those in danger. Adventurous, curious about his past, and eager to shape his future, he shows the recklessness of an adolescent at times, but he is slowly growing into his role as a leader of a proud species. He's a little naive about the ways of the world but eager to learn and grow.

Famous Dragons

Spyro is a young purple dragon in a video game trilogy called The Legend of Spyro trilogy. However, there is also an older series featuring the character of Spyro called the Spyro the Dragon series.  I personally don't play the games in the Spyro the Dragon series myself. I like The Legend of Spyro trilogy better, because it has a storyline that is easy to comprehend.

Young Spyro

Adolescent Spyro

Firedrake is a silver dragon and a character in a novel entitled Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. Firedrake, Ben, and their furry friend, Sorrel, are in search of a mythical place where dragons can live in peace forever. Together, they embark on a journey that takes them to magical lands, where they meet marvelous creatures...and one ruthless villain. Along the way, they will discover allies in odd places, courage they didn't know they had, and a hidden destiny that changes everything.

Komodo Dragons

The Komodo Dragon is a real-life dragon. Although they're not fire-breathers like our favorite mythical creatures, they have their own amazing defensive and offensive abilities. Here are a few facts about them.

Komodo Dragons are the biggest lizards on earth. They usually weigh up to 150 pounds,     although captive specimens often weigh more. The largest specimen weighed at least 370 pounds! (That is one danged big lizard!)

Komodo Dragons have septic pathogens in their saliva (in other words, the bacteria in a Komodo Dragon's mouth is pretty darned deadly). However, while these pathogens can be found in the mouths of wild Komodo Dragons, they disappear from the mouths of captive Komodos due to a cleaner diet and the use of antibiotics. (Also, I bet most of you didn't know that the same bacteria in their mouths is also found in their scales. In other words, a single blow to the skin by a Komodo dragon's powerful tail can also be fatal.)

Spyro's Breath Attacks

The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is very different from the The Eternal Night and A New Beginning. First of all, you get to play as either Spyro or Cynder. You can switch between them in single-player mode throughout the game, too!  A dragon's teeth and claws can be effective weapons in their own rights, but what makes a dragon such a powerful warrior is their ability to harness the elements into lethal breath attacks. Spyro and Cynder also have their own unique sets of elemental breath attacks.

In  A New Beginning, the dragon Guardians bestowed upon Spyro control over the elements of fire, electricity, ice, and earth. Each of these elements has its own primary and secondary attacks.

Primary Attacks
Dragon Fire: Allows you to breathe Dragon Fire that burns your target.
Ice Spikes: Shoots Ice Spikes that damage your target.
Earth Boulder: Transforms Spyro into a boulder when the primary attack button is held down.
Lightning Bolt: Unleashes a Lightning Bolt when the primary attack button is held down.

Secondary Attacks
Comet Dash: Surrounds Spyro in flames as he charges into his enemies
Snow Storm: Creates a Snow Storm that damages surrounding enemies
Earth Missile: Launches an Earth Missile at enemies in front of Spyro
Electric Sphere: Emits an Electric Sphere that stuns and damages surrounding enemies

Dragon Poem

Hello, followers. I recently wrote a poem about dragons and how humans perceive them. Check it out!
It's called "Creatures of Legend".

"Creatures of Legend"

Dragons have been told of in tales for years
As creatures of darkness, creatures of fears
For centuries, we've portrayed them as dark and evil
But what is actually true of these creatures medieval?

Dragons are creatures of mystery and wonder
Creatures that capture our attention like thunder.
In a sense, dragons are like wolves, just misunderstood
So it's possible that they are actually creatures of good.

Some dragons are more aggressive than others,
But they may also be social and live with their sisters or brothers.
But even though dragons' personalities vary
One thing's for certain: they're truly shy and wary

Should we keep perceiving dragons as creatures of evil
Or should we end this dreadful assumption primeval?
If dragons are anything like wildlife today, they're just trying to survive
So banish our former way of thinking and let good assumptions of dragons thrive.

Pet Dragons

Check this out, everyone! Looks like Hiccup and his friends from How To Train Your Dragon aren't the only ones with dragons as pets. Did you know there is a type of lizard you can keep as a pet called the Bearded Dragon? They're pretty cool pets, if you ask me. Here's a few neat  facts about them:

Bearded Dragon lizards are native to Australia. They live in rocky and arid regions of the country and are adept climbers. Dragons have large, triangular heads and flat bodies with pointed ridges along the sides. They are omnivorous, eating both insects and plants.

Bearded Dragons make great pet lizards. They don't get too large, they eat a wide variety of foods, are active during the day, and are gentle animals. Bearded Dragons are captive-bred, have limited care requirements, readily available, and inexpensive. They can be a great addition to your family.

Description: One of the toughest dragons in the world is the Gronckle. Gronckles have gigantic heads, short bodies, and round tails. Gronckles are lazy, and spend most of their time sleeping in communal heaps. They have been known to fall asleep while flying, waking only when they crash into the ocean or the side of a mountain. Gronckles have relatively small wings that beat as fast as a hummingbird's. They are slow in the air, but they make up for this with their maneuverability. A Gronckle can fly backwards, sideways, and even hover. Gronckles attack from the air, where their primary weapons is most effective.  Gronckles chew rocks, melting them in their bellies, and firing them as balls of molten lava.

Personality: It is relentless, stubborn, and direct like a compact berserker rhino, yet very loyal to its rider.

HAH! Factor: Good luck waking up a Gronckle. They have been known to sleep through hail-storms.

Dragon Species: The Deadly Nadder

Description: One of the most beautiful dragons in the world is the Deadly Nadder. It is easily recongized by the bright blue body and brilliant yellow spikes that cover it from head to tail. This colorful dragon is active any time of the day or night. Nadders are quick and agile in the air, and can fly for long distances, but will almost always land before attacking. Nadders travel and raid in groups, making them especially dangerous. The Deadly Nadder isn't the largest or fastest dragon, but it possesses the hottest fire int he dragon world. The blast of the Nadder can melt steel or turn a man to ash in seconds. But the dangers of the Nadder don't stop there. The tail of the Nadder can be whipped around, releasing a volley of giant spikes that can penetrate trees, walls, and Vikings.

Personality: It is flightty, aggressive, and has a quick and explosive temper.  Its vanity is evident in the generous amount of time it spends preening itself.

HAH! Factor: If you stand right in front of a Nadder's nose, it won't be able to see you. Don't sneeze!

AHH! Factor: Without warning, the prickly Nadder can whip hundreds of sharp spines at you from its tail. Better play nice.

Possessing the largest wing-to-body ratio of all dragons, it can fly higher, faster, and longer than any dragon, and its incredible power-to-weight ratio renders it capable of vertical takeoff. Its unconventional fire explodes its target on impact. Its signature attack mode is executed after sundown and from high altitude--enwrapped in its wings, it dives like a bullet, pulling up at the last moment to deliver one precise and explosive burst...then vanishing back into the darkness. The only warning is the ballistic noise the diving Night Fury makes. Its kamikaze attack, along with its cautious behavior and analytical mind, makes the Night Fury a devastating opponent with an extraordinary success rate. To date, no Night Fury has ever been brought down.

Personality: Reclusive, analytical, inventive, and the most intelligent of the known dragon species.

HAH! Factor: If a Night Fury eats something it doesn't like, stand back. Flaming food flies fast.

Dragon Legends Around the World

Did you know that in Eastern cultures (like Asian and Eurasian cultures), dragons are portrayed as creatures of good fortune? It's true; however, in Western cultures (European cultures), dragons are viewed as creatures of evil. There are many stories in Western cultures of mighty heroes who slay dragons. I personally love the way that Asian and Eurasian cultures view dragons, because they portray dragons as creatures that do good to the world, and not creatures of evil like the way the Western world views them. Here are a few pictures of dragons around the world:

Volteer and Cyril

Volteer
Volteer is the Guardian Dragon of electricity. Nimble in both deed and mind, Volteer is the most intellectual of the four Guardians. He speaks very fast, like his mouth can't keep up with his mind, and he often enjoys using big words and inserting barely relevant facts into his discussions. And according to Sparx in The Eternal Night, "His stories will put anyone to sleep".

Cyril
The Guardian Dragon of ice, Cyril is a coldly confident and predominantly prideful dragon who constantly brags about his supposedly "royal" ancestry. He does not hold his tongue when speaking, and can often be sarcastic, with Volteer usually being the target of these remarks due to the electric guardian's incessant babbling. Cyril questions decisions made by others, but will always rally to the cause. Despite his shortcomings, however, Cyril knows when to swallow his pride and do the right thing, admitting that Spyro is the way forwards and that he and his fellow Guardians must step aside.

3. This pathogen bacteria can be found mostly only in the mouths of wild Komodo dragons, but sometimes not in the mouths of captive ones, due to a cleaner diet and the use of antibiotics.

Ignitus and The Chronicler

Ignitus
Ignitus is the Guardian Dragon of fire and leader of the dragons. He is usually calm and collected, but when in battle, has been known to break out into fits of fury, using his fire ability to great effect. He blames himself for everything that has happened to Spyro and Cynder, and he carries that guilt throughout the trilogy. His faith in Spyro is utterly unwavering, & he is a devout believer in the ancestors, truly believing that Spyro is nature's way of balancing itself against Malefor's evil. Ignitus is seen as a father-like figure and mentor to Spyro, providing him with words of wisdom and leading him on the right path.

The Chronicler
The Chronicler is a wizened and ancient dragon. Dwelling in the Celestial Caves of the White Isle, he is the keeper of dragon history, guarding their best-kept secrets and maintaining the lore of dragonkind for future generations. His role as the Chronicler makes him a firm believer in destiny, and he often reminds Spyro that sometimes our paths are chosen for us, and it is our destiny to follow them.

Terrador and Malefor

Terrador
Terrador is the Guardian Dragon of earth. A battle-scarred warrior, he is the most militant of the four Guardians. Dedicated and focused on the practical art of battle, his stolid demeanor and skill of speech make him perfect for battle command. Able to keep a level head in the face of greatest danger, Terrador dislikes cowardice, but is wise enough to know when to retreat. Terrador possesses the heart of a warrior and is the most powerful of the Guardians when it comes down to brute strength. He does not judge others by their appearance or reputation, but by their skills in battle, having much admiration for Spyro, who proved himself in combat at such a young age. He speaks in a low, baritone voice.

Malefor the Dark Master
Better known as the Dark Master, Malefor was the first purple dragon ever born. Like Spyro, his being a purple dragon enables him to harness all four elements (fire, electricity, ice, and earth). He also possesses some other dark powers, like the ones he used to maintain control of Cynder in A New Beginning.  After Cynder freed him from Convexity, Malefor then called upon Gaul the Ape King to resurrect him on the Night of Eternal Darkness. Finally freed from his prison in the Well of Souls, Malefor continues his mad quest and will stop at nothing to bring about the end of the world.
